Local Information Centres

There are four community run Local Information Centres in Area North, supported by Area Development, serving Langport, South Petherton, Martock and Somerton. The LICs in Area North received over 10,000 visitors during 2012-13, helped by 80 volunteers.

The Local Information Centres (LICs) receive a small grant from SSDC (between £500 and £750 per year), but are largely funded by town and parish councils and their own fundraising. Many local organisations make good use of the centres for promoting local events and activities.

LICs provide a great way for very local information to be found and shared! They are always keen to find new volunteers too to keep the LICs open for as many hours as possible each week.

To find out more about opening times or volunteering at an LIC you can contact the local co-ordinator via the LIC office - please see here for further details.
