The group then grew and developed in to a
multi-agency group covering the whole of South
Somerset. The YOG has representatives from statutory
agencies, local charities, local churches and young people who
meet to tackle issues relating to young people and identify
opportunities for new youth activities and joint
working. The Community Development Officer jointly chairs the
meetings and Area South Development provide all of the
administration support.
Consultation with young people clearly showed many young
people were not aware of just how much is available for them to
access, so the Youth Opportunities Group have produced calendars of
events during the school holidays to promote the opportunities and
activities put on by the various partners.
The Community Development
Officer has also been part of a number of steering
groups for youth projects, such as the Odcombe Meeting Place
and the Birchfield Play Area Refurbishment.
