A Yeovil-based social enterprise providing essential services
and skills for people who
experience disabilities, difficulties and disadvantage has
received a £5,000 boost.
South Somerset District Council awarded a grant to the founders
of The Hub at their Area South Committee on 1st June 2011.
The Hub's premises are in Yeovil town centre for easy access by
public transport and currently occupy part of Thorne House, a
previously disused three storey ex-glove-making factory on
Eastville.
Professional staff help individuals learn how to live more
independently, within their own budgets, find work and develop life
skills.
The organisation has invested £55,000 to renovate the building
and produce an interactive website but the lift in the building is
unusable and has not been serviced for 18 years, leaving the Hub
urgently needing to raise nearly £13,000 to bring it back into
use.
The Hub Yeovil provides personalised support for adults and
young people aged 14 and over, including educational, personal,
employment and social opportunities.
