Yeovil Amateur Boxing Club

Yeovil Amateur Boxing Club was established in 1948 and has been developing young boxers in Yeovil and the surrounding area for over sixty years. The club has had over 15 different venues during this time and for the last three years have been located at Victoria Road.

The club has over 40 members including 12 women, with boxers ranging in age from 10 to 30.  Sessions run five evenings per week for beginners and elite boxers, with the club also delivering a after boxing club at Preston and Stanchester schools for young people who have behavioural issues.

South Somerset District Council awarded a grant of £2,850 at their Area South Committee on 2nd March 2011.

The funding will go towards upgrading its changing facilities and shower area to ensure that the club has facilities for both male and female boxers as they would like to continue to grow the membership, especially for females following a number of enquiries.

Purchase of new equipment such as head guards, boxing gloves and punch bags will enable the club to accommodate a number of people on its membership waiting list and the grant will allow it to increase its capacity to cater for 70 members.
