Yeovil has a long history as a market town. Prior to the
mid 1800's indoor markets were held in the old Market House and the
butchers held a market in the shambles. The market moved to
Middle Street in 1996.
The market in Yeovil has 800 years of history, dating back to
1205 when King John granted the Market Charter. Yeovil is
renowned for its helicopters at Westlands and for Pittards leather
which is now used for sporting activities worldwide.
