In order for us to ensure our services, strategies and policies
are meeting the different needs of our local communities we carry
out Equality Analysis.
The Equality Analysis check that decisions and activities we
undertake do not disadvantage different groups. Consideration is
currently given to race, gender, disability, sexual orientation.
The Equalities Steering Group (ESG) is now well established.
The group has representation from:
The group is chaired by the Portfolio Holder for Equality and
Social Inclusion. Other members include our Community Cohesion
Officer and our Gypsy Site and Liaison Officer. It is the group's
responsibility to steer the approach to equalities work throughout
the council's services, delivery and functions.
Through carrying out Equality Analysis, (EqAs), we continue to
work on reducing the barriers that deny people access to our
services as well as promoting our equalities work through delivery
outcomes.
The Equalities Steering Group (ESG) has the responsibility for
overseeing the successful functioning of the Equality Analysis
process. The ESG acts as a 'critical friend' in assessing the
likely impact of proposed strategies, policies, services and
functions on the promotion of equality of opportunity for staff and
service users.
