currently held within a maximum of every 5 years. |
| European - SSDC administers South Somerset,
part of the South West Region, which elects 6 members for the South
West Region using the proportional representation process. European
Elections are held every 5 years, the next one scheduled for June
2014. |
| Somerset County Council - SSDC elects 1 member
for each of the 18 divisions within South Somerset. These elections
are held every 4 years, the next one scheduled for 2nd May
2013. |
| South Somerset District Council - SSDC elects
a total of 60 members for the 39 wards in South Somerset. These
elections are held every 4 years, the next one scheduled for 7th

a total of 824 members for the 121 parishes in South Somerset.
These elections are held every 4 years, the next one scheduled for

By-Elections - These elections are held as and

To vote you must be
- over 18 years of age
- register to vote
- a citizen of Britain, Ireland, the Commonwealth or the European
Union (EU and Commonwealth citizens are only allowed to vote in
certain elections)
- live in the area that wish to vote for

How do I vote?

You can vote in person. Your polling station's location will be
on the poll card that will be delivered to you before polling
day.
You can vote by post, by completing a postal vote application
form.

You can also apply for a proxy vote if:
- you are unable to go to the polling station for one particular
election, for example, if you are away on holiday
- you have a physical condition that means you cannot go to the
polling station on election day
- your employment means that you cannot go to the polling station
on election day
- your attendance on an educational course means that you cannot
go to the polling station on election day
- you are a British citizen living overseas
- you are a crown servant or a member of Her Majesty's Armed
Forces
