A Scrutiny investigation, or review, involves:
- Establishing the current position.
- Seeking help from experts on the issue.
- Inviting members of the public to give their views.
- Looking at what is happening in other Councils.
- Seeing how we compare to similar Councils and, if they are
better than us in that area, establishing why that is.
- Producing a report for the Overview and Scrutiny
Committee.
- Making recommendations to the Cabinet/Council as
appropriate.
- Monitoring progress against any agreed recommendations to
ensure that improvements are being achieved.
If you are an expert you may be invited to act
as a 'witness' or be co-opted onto a Review panel to provide
valuable evidence and expertise to support an
investigation. More information about the role of a
'witness' can be obtained from the Overview and Scrutiny Team.
If you are a member of the public the
Councillors of a Scrutiny Review would like to know your views.
These views can be gathered in a variety of ways: issuing
a questionnaire, conducting a one-to-one interview, holding a group
discussion or publicising a request for written evidence and views
relating to a current commission or task and finish review.
