Countryside - Activities and Events The Countryside Ranger team organise events and activities at all countryside sites for people of all ages, including school holiday activities, free events and fetes, family events, workshops, volunteer days, guided walks and sporting events. Read on to find out more... Countryside Education The Countryside Service can provide information, help with visits, or lead walks, talks and activities to all educational groups, whether formal or informal. Ham Hill Country Park A 164 hectare (390 acre) Country Park centred on an Iron Age hill fort, which is managed by South Somerset District Council. Yeovil Country Park This diverse 127 acre Country Park is located on the south and eastern edges of Yeovil, behind Goldenstones Leisure Centre. Chard Reservoir Chard Reservoir provides an exciting opportunity to observe wildlife. The reserve includes 48 acres of open water important for migratory wildfowl, and also woodland and hay meadows. Langport & River Parrett Visitor Centre Find out about the the River Parrett Trail with a hands on experience in the 'discovery room', and enjoy the displays and exhibits explaining the fascinating story of historic Langport, local industries, the River Parrett and wildlife. Moldrams Ground A 4 acre local nature reserve near Pen Selwood with woodland, wet grassland, ponds, bird hide and bird feeding stations. Walking trails South Somerset has many long distance walking trails and circular walks, offering miles of unspoilt countryside and quaint villages, with some excellent pubs on the way! Public Rights of Way South Somerset has over 1000 miles of Public Rights of Way which provide very important links to the countryside and is also one of the best means of exploring the district. There are many opportunities for walking, riding and cycling in the area, from long distance recreational routes to shorter, circular walks. Countryside Management The Countryside Service manage a variety of countryside sites including Country Parks and Local Nature Reserves. Look Out Club The rangers from Ham Hill and Yeovil Country Parks organise a fun programme of activities for children designed to promote an interest in nature and the great outdoors. Countryside Rangers The Countryside Ranger team look after all the countryside sites across the district - Ham Hill Country Park, Yeovil Country Park, Chard Reservoir Local Nature Reserve and Moldrams Ground, and look after all the rights of way. Countryside Surveys The Countryside Service Rangers work with a number of local groups to carry out wildlife surveys.
