Bats, snakes and badgers

Bats

All species of bat and their breeding sites or resting places are protected. It is an offence for anyone to intentionally kill, injure or handle a bat, disturb a roosting bat, sell or offer a bat for sale without a licence. It is also an offence to damage, destroy or obstruct access to any place used by bats for shelter, whether they are present or not. Snakes

All native species of snakes are protected by law and it is an offence to kill or injure any snake. For further advice please contact Natural England.

 

Badgers

Badgers are also a protected species. Badger advice can be obtained from DEFRA or the Somerset Badger Group on 01749 671065.
