Sort It Plus - your weekly kerbside recycling

Sort It Plus - the weekly
kerbside recycling collection - has now been launched, which means
residents can recycle cardboard and household plastic
bottles along with all the other materials collected each
week - making recycling even easier for every household in the
district.
Somerset Waste Partnership and each of the five district
councils in Somerset have signed up to the scheme in a
groundbreaking deal involving a £1.25m five-year investment from
Marks and Spencer, who are taking a range of actions to become a
greener retailer.

Asbestos disposal
Domestic asbestos waste must be treated as hazardous waste and
as such needs to be handled carefully.
Cement asbestos sheets that are not trade waste will be accepted
at certain Household Waste Recycling Centres. Preferably not
broken, or if broken, securely bagged and placed in the dedicated
asbestos skips at the sites.

asbestos.
If you wish to dispose of commercial or industrial asbestos,
please contact the Environment Agency.

Kerbside recycling
 |
The kerbside recycling service is available to all households.
Residents place recyclable items into a green
kerbside recycling box, which is then collected every week on the
same day as your refuse collection. Residents are requested to
place their box at the edge of their property near the pavement by
7.00 am on the collection day.

Missed a collection?
 |
Your refuse, recycling or food waste must be put out for
collection by 7am on the correct day. If it has
been missed, it will be collected within two working days of you
having reported it to us.
The collection may have been missed due to problems accessing
your street or if the team feel there were items placed in the
sacks or wheeled bin that they should have been collected.
If your bin contains items that should not have been
included, you should dispose of them at your local
household waste recycling centre.

Top of the heap for recycling
We are second in the UK for sending for sending the lowest
levels of refuse to landfill. Despite being pipped to the post for
the top spot, South Somerset residents are actually sending even
less to landill than ever before, reducing the amount buried by
2,000 tonnes, which is equal to 285 double decker buses in
weight.
So keep up the good work!
Waste collection and recycling in Somerset is managed
by Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP), on behalf of
all of the district councils.
District councils are responsible for waste
collection (such as kerbside recycling, emptying
of household wheelie bins, collection of black bags etc) whilst the
county council (Somerset County Council) is
responsible for waste disposal, such as Household Waste Recycling Centres, landfill
sites and more.
