Asbestos

The Somerset Waste Partnership offers the safe disposal of asbestos through an appointed Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).

You are advised to contact your local HWRC or Somerset Waste Partnership on 01823 625700. There may be a charge for collection and disposal.

Domestic asbestos waste must be treated as hazardous waste and as such needs to be handled carefully. Domestic householders can refer to the leaflet titled  Handling Household Asbestos in Somerset for further information.

For Industrial or Commercial hazardous waste enquiries please contact Somerset County Council on 0845 3459188 or the Environment Agency directly who will be able to offer advice.

Cement asbestos sheets that are not trade waste will be accepted at certain Household Waste Recycling Centres. Preferably not broken, or if broken, securely bagged and placed in the dedicated asbestos skips at the sites. The sites that accept household cement bonded asbestos are:

  • Taunton
  • Yeovil
  • Bridgwater
  • Street
  • Frome
  • Minehead
  • Highbridge

If you wish to dispose of commercial or industrial asbestos, contact the Environment Agency on 01278 457333. If you are unable to transport your household asbestos to a Household Waste Recycling Centre please contact the Somerset Waste Partnership on 01823 625700.
