What does the Playspace include?Award winning architects Cracknell Ltd (previously Parklife Ltd) have created an imaginative playspace that incorporates the ideas of the children that were consulted and contains:
Spooky news - the Skull Slide is now illuminatedThe lighting in the Skull Slide that makes the eyes glow red was installed recently. With the new lights on the pavilion, this brings a successful conclusion the lighting aspects of the project.
The photos show the skull being illuminated and on 2 of the images you might be able to see 'light graffiti'. These pictures were achieved using a camera set on a long shutter speed and then making shapes and writing words using a torch. Have a try yourself - maybe you can do better! Background information - what is the Flagship Playspace? The Flagship Playspace is located at Yeovil Recreation Centre and aims to help children and adults across the district reconnect with the outdoors through natural materials such as sand, water and plants. One of the most exciting aspects is that we asked you - our customers - to tell us what you wanted the Flagship Playspace to look like. The design will aim to provide an environment in which children can play freely, test their boundaries and have fun. The Flagship Playspace aims to inspire the imagination while engaging with the exciting world of nature. The existing play area has been replaced and the area for the new playspace enlarged. The Flagship Playspace enhances the existing landscape and did not result in loss of open space or any trees. Why create a Flagship Playspace? The Flagship Playspace project emerged as part of the development of South Somerset District Council's Play Policy and Play Strategy which were formally adopted in March 2007. This project is separate to, and will not be affected by, the Sport Zone project. |
