Health Walks![]() Health Walks are becoming increasingly popular in South Somerset. The Community Activity and Lifestyle Team has helped to set up walks across the district.Seven out of 10 people aren't currently active enough to benefit their health. Health walks are a great way of getting exercise and they are also a good way of meeting people. Why not take a health walk and enjoy the beautiful South Somerset countryside? Your walk should be 'brisk' if you are aiming for health benefits. You could make new friends, relieve stress and benefit your health! The following health walks cover the whole district. To find the health walk you want, find the town nearest to you and click on the walk you would like to view. Walks range between 1 and 4 and half miles. Somerset Walking and Activity Group (SWAG)The Somerset Walking and Activity Group (SWAG) is specifically for people in their 20s and 30s who enjoy walking, like exploring the varied countryside of Somerset and want to make new friends. Health Walks from Crewkerne Aqua CentreWalks commence at 9.30am every Tuesday starting and finishing at Crewkerne Aqua Centre, Henhayes, South Street, Crewkerne, TA18 7LZ. For more information telephone 01460 77665 Active Martock Walking GroupMartock has started a walking group in partnership with Martock Surgery. Walks are fortnightly and started June 2007. For further details on the walks contact Lyn Lowe or Alison Stone at Martock Surgery on 01935 826722. Active Stoke Walking GroupThis is a friendly group and all walks are free. Come and join us. We walk 3 to 4 miles at a gentle pace and many people come on their own. We walk at a gentle pace. Please wear supportive boots or shoes and waterproof clothing if necessary. Dogs are welcome. Reckleford Children's Centre has started its own weekly walking group and walks are open to all abilities. Walks will take place around Yeovil, and will take no longer than 1 hour and not exceed 2 miles. All walks are led by a qualified Health Walk Leader. The walking routes have been especially chosen so that they are accessible for pushchairs and prams. Come along, get some fresh air and meet new people. Yeovil Health Walking GroupThe group is currently taking a well earned summer break and will return in September - watch this space for details. South Petherton Walking GroupThe South Petherton Walking Group is aimed at the over 50's and walk regularly. Walks are planned and vary between two and ten miles. On the longer walks we try to fit in a Pub or Coffee Shop and there is no pressure to 'finish on time'. We are not ramblers, just a group of nice people out for a few hours healthy, social activity. If you have a friendly dog, bring it along too, but please bear in mind we sometimes cross farm land and dogs always need to be under control.
