Details of how you may get help with payment of Rent or Council Tax.
Council tax helps pay for local services like providing care, schools, policing and rubbish collection. It applies to houses, bungalows, flats, maisonettes, mobile homes and houseboats. The Council Tax is a contribution towards the total cost of providing services to all of the residents who live in the South Somerset District Council area. It is not a payment for services actually received or used by the individual resident or household.
Universal Credit (UC) was rolled out in South Somerset, with new claims starting from 20 April 2015.
The eligibility criteria to be able to claim in the initial roll out are very limited and will only affect single customers claiming as unemployed. Other exceptions apply.
