Ways to pay your Council Tax

We will issue you a council Tax bill showing the charge, any reductions, exemptions, discounts and benefit entitlement, the amount payable by you and the instalment details.

BILLS

You will normally receive your annual Council Tax bill in March. Normally, you will be offered ten instalments (April through to January), unless you have chosen to pay annually or half yearly.  The number of instalments will be reduced if the bill is issued after the end of April. If your charge changes during the year you will be sent a revised bill along with revised instalments.

METHODS OF PAYMENT

Direct Debit

This is the most cost effective way for us to collect your payment and helps to keep the cost of Council Tax collection down. We have four instalment dates - 1st, 7th, 14th and 25th of the month. You can choose the one that best suits you.

If you wish to pay your Council Tax this way you can either complete the Direct Debit mandate form attached to your bill or call the Revenues Team on 01935 462462 and we can set it up over the phone. We will keep strictly to the terms of the Direct Debit Guarantee - as shown below:

The Direct Debit Guarantee

All banks and building societies that take part in the Direct Debit scheme offer this guarantee.  The efficiency and security of the scheme is monitored and protected by your own bank or building society.  If the amount to be paid or the payment dates change, you will be told of this at least 10 working days in advance.  If South Somerset District Council or your bank or building society makes an error you are guaranteed a full refund of the amount paid.  You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by telephoning us or by writing to your bank or building society.  Please sand a copy of your letter to us at The Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil, Somerset, BA20 2YP.
