What is the Home Aid scheme ?

The Home Aid scheme is the local Home Improvement Agency
for residents of South Somerset . The scheme is one of a
network of Home Improvement Agencies established nationwide to keep
homes warm, safe and secure', enabling residents to remain living
independently in their own homes.

Who is the scheme aimed at ?
|
|
The service is available to residents in South
Somerset who are either over the age of 60, living with a
disability, or who could be considered vulnerable.
The help you can receive may depend on your financial and
personal situation, but we will be happy to advise you of the
options available to you.

How can I access the service?
|
|
Anyone who is over the age of 60, living with a disability or
who could be considered vulnerable can contact the service for
advice and assistance.
If you are registered disabled, have a specific mobility issue
or think that you may be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant
from us, we will need to refer you to
Care Direct (0845 345 9133). They can arrange a visit from
an Occupational Therapist who may be able to support an application
for a grant .

What sort of help can I get?

Working with Social Services and other agencies, the Home Aid
team can:
- Help clients decide what work is required;
- Draw up plans and specifications;
- Help select suitable builders;
- Help apply for grants or loans;
- See the building works through from start to finish;
- Fill out forms and generally help with any day-to-day problems
that arise.

How much does the scheme cost?
|
|
The intention of the scheme is to keep costs as low as possible.
Any costs (usually 10%) will be outlined before
works commence.
All advice from the service is free, however if plans and
specifications are required a 10 per cent charge is
applicable. You will only need to pay this fee if you fund the work
yourself, in all other cases the fees will be included in your
application for financial assistance.
