 On this page you will find information about visiting the Museum of South Somerset, Hendford, Yeovil.  A good place to find out about the history in your local area is to visit your local Community Museum.  The museum has a Discovery Area where children can undertake various activities including. Our Heritage Outreach Officer also visits schools to give presentations on topics from World War II, Romans, Victorians and local history since the 1930's.  Yeovil and South Somerset is an area rich in history. There is evidence of occupation here since the Iron Age and in Roman times this was an important agricultural area.  The Heritage Team are actively collecting local history material and information. We also provide an identification and enquiry service.  South Somerset District Council hold a stock of books on the local history of South Somerset. The list of books is below and if you wish to purchase a publication, please use the contact details on the right of this page. When e-mailing to request a book, please let us know the title of the book and how many copies you require. There is no charge for postage.  The Heritage Team provide a wide range of historical activities and resources for schools and local groups. We also identify finds and provide an enquiry service on local history.
