Buildings Integrated Renewable Energy Requirement

There is now a renewable energy requirement for developers to fufill for all large developments in South Somerset.

The District Executive of South Somerset District Council endorsed implementation of a renewable energy requirement for all large developments and regular update of the note to reflect changes in Government regulation and guidance on the 6 April 2008.

Planning Policy Statement: Planning and Climate Change - Supplement to Planning Policy Statement states that  "planning authorities should set out a target percentage of the energy to be used in new development to come from decentralised and renewable or low-carbon energy sources"

The policy endorsed is;

A carbon emissions saving - as compared to compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations 2006 - of at least ten per cent should be made through the installation of renewable energy generation equipment in large developments of more than ten dwellings or 1000 m2 of non residential floor space.
