Documents published during Preparation Stages

The South Somerset Local Plan Deposit Draft was published in 1998 and put forward proposals for the conservation or development of land, and guidance for planning decisions. There were various stages in the preparation of the Local Plan and the published documents can be viewed via the links. The Local Plan is designed to meet the future needs of communities within South Somerset District for the period to 2011.

The main stages in the Local Plan's preparation were as follows:

Publication of Deposit Draft Local Plan - June 1998
Public Inquiry into objections to the Local Plan - April 2002 to February 2003
Public Inquiry inspector's report - June 2003
Proposed Modifications to the Local Plan - February 2004;
Further Proposed Modifications - December 2004 [6Mb] (pdf document);
Public Inquiry into objections to the above Modifications - June 2005;
Further Proposed Modifications - June 2005 [3Mb] (pdf document);
Modifications Inquiry Inspector's report [250kb] (pdf document) - November 2005;
Further Proposed Modifications - January 2006 [5Mb] (pdf document);
Notice of Intention to Adopt Local Plan [23kb] (pdf document) - March 2006;
Local Plan Adoption Notice [14kb] (pdf document) - 27 April 2006; and
South Somerset Local Plan adopted 27 April 2006 and "saved" until 26 April 2009;
Extension of most Local Plan Policies and Proposals pending their replacement by the South Somerset Local Development Framework.
