Need to know the time of your next bus in a hurry? Just text code of the bus stop to 84268. You'll then get a text message showing the arrival times of the next three buses due to stop at your chosen bus stop.

If you want to know details of a specific service number, just put a space between the bus stop code and the service number i.e. sotajdat 22. Standard network charges apply.

All bus stops in Somerset have a unique code. Some have a glow-in-the-dark plate, showing the code. You can find bus stop codes online at the Traveline South West website. So, you could even store a number of bus stop codes in your mobile phone so you've always got them to hand- useful when you're out shopping, at the beach or at the pub!

Concessionary bus travel for those of qualifying age or with disabilities

If you are of qualifying age* or are classified as eligible disabled*, you can apply for free off-peak travel* on local buses anywhere in England through the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme.

*Qualifying Age

  • If you were born on or before 5 April 1950 your qualifying age is 60.
  • If you were born after 5 April 1950 the qualifying age for concessionary travel for women will be pension age and for men it will be the pensionable age of a woman born on the same day.
  • If you were born on or after 6 April 1955 you will not qualify until age 65 or older, this is subject to future planned changes to the state pension age.

*Eligible Disabled 

You are 'eligible disabled' if any of the following applies to you:

  • You are blind or partially sighted
  • You are profoundly or severely deaf
  • You are without speech
  • You have a disability which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to walk
  • You do not have arms or have long-term loss of the use of both arms
  • You have a learning disability
  • You are not allowed to hold a driving license due to a physical condition, other than persistent misuse of drugs or alcohol.

*Off-peak

'Off-peak' is between 9am and 11pm Monday to Friday in Somerset, 9.30am until 11pm in the rest of England and all day at weekends and on public holidays.

County Ticket for young people

The County Ticket and County Ticket Plus are discounted bus passes for students provided by Somerset County Council.

Both passes are valid for unlimited travel on Public Service Bus routes throughout Somerset and routes crossing into or out of Wiltshire, Dorset and Devon (subject to some operator restrictions). In addition, the County Ticket Plus is also valid on services crossing into or out of North Somerset and Bath & North East Somerset.

All journeys must either start or finish within Somerset. To to get a County Ticket or a County Ticket Plus, you must be:

  • attending school, college or a 16+ College of Further Education and the course you are attending must be funded by the Learning and Skills Council. The school, college or 16+ College of Further Education will be able to confirm this.
  • or, you must be attending a 16+ College of Further Education as part of a Work Based Learning Course.
