About Yeovil Country Park
|
|
The hillsides offer wonderful views across the town and towards
the Dorset hills. Wildlife in the park includes bats, water
voles, kingfishers, green woodpeckers, swans and a wide
variety of woodland and grassland flowers, tree species and
fungi.
Yeovil Country Park and Ham Hill Country Park have signed
up to the BBC Breathing Places campaign, which encourages people to
explore their local countryside and give nature a helping hand!
Visit the
BBC Breathing Places website for more information and to
download fun activities.

We welcome dogs to Yeovil Country Park, but please take notice
of the 'No dog zone' around the lake that is clearly identified.
This has been put in place in order to protect the wildlife on and
around the lake - there is an alternative path for dog walkers
around this area.

Activities and education
|
|
There is Nature trail for the Ninesprings
area of the park, which is an exciting trail with quizzing wildlife
questions and activities for children. There is also an
orienteering course at Yeovil Country Park, which
is a good way for people of all ages to discover the Country Park
whilst improving map reading skills. Orienteering packs are also
available from the Yeovil
Heritage and Information Centre and the Langport
and River Parrett Visitor Centre for £1.
There is a comprehensive Education Pack aimed for Yeovil
Country Park aimed at key stage two, with activities linking
into all areas of the National Curriculum. There are detailed
instructions, teaching notes and worksheets for all areas of the
Country Park, including great ideas for follow on activities.
Yeovil Country Park is right our doorstep, and for many
schools it is within walking distance.

Volunteering
|
|
Every Thursday is our practical volunteer day - we are
always looking for more people to join our dedicated team of
volunteers who help the ranger team on a wide variety or tasks such
as planting trees, removing non-native trees and maintaining the
footpaths.
Please phone the Ham Hill Centre on 01935 823617 if you are
interested in joining the team (there is no office at Yeovil
Country Park). You do not need any previous experience and skills -
all we ask it that you fill in a volunteer registration
form and have a reasonable level of fitness and
a good sense of humour!
If you are a community group looking for a guest speaker on the
Country Park, please phone the Ham Hill Centre on 01935 823617
who can put you in touch with one of the Yeovil rangers.
