Flooding and land drainage

Our policy is to endeavour to alleviate problems of internal flooding of properties. This is a discretionary, non-statutory function carried out where budgetary and resource constraints permit.

We will:

  • monitor the effectiveness of local watercourses
  • maintain certain watercourses in order to safeguard properties at risk of flooding
  • carry out improvements to watercourses, where appropriate, in order to alleviate flooding problems
  • offer assistance, generally in the form of sandbags, to residents affected during the course of flooding.
  • offer guidance and advice to members of the public in respect of flooding problems
A number of CCTV cameras are installed in the central area of Yeovil in order to detect and monitor problems of anti-social behaviour and general disorder or crime. These CCTV cameras are the responsibility of South Somerset District Council and are monitored from a central monitoring station.

CCTV

We will:

  • ensure that these CCTV cameras are constantly monitored
  • carry out repairs as necessary
