Communities in South Somerset
Funding and support, equality and diversity, area working and
the Localism Act
The Localism Act 2011 is an important piece of legislation for all local councils and is intended to be the Government's main mechanism for taking forward ideas for the "Big Society".
We remain committed to promoting equality, recognising and valuing diversity and ensuring equal opportunities chances for all.
The Somerset Armed Forces Community Covenant brings together charities, local authorities, other public sector organisations, businesses, communities, individuals and the military in a pledge of support between local residents and the Armed Forces community in the County.
Councillors, officers and communities have worked together to build our successful Area Working system for almost twenty years. Area Working aims to establish real and meaningful community engagement coupled with strong local leadership and local accountability.
We support voluntary, community and charitable organisations in South Somerset which aim to make South Somerset a better place to live and work.
