Community Offices

We know for many people using the website and phone are easy ways to contact us, but this doesn't suit everyone, so we maintain a number of local Community Offices.

Visit your local Community Office where one of our Advisers can help you to access a wide range of District Council services including: -

  • Housing Benefit and Council tax reduction - receipt, verification, evidence, general advice and guidance including clarification of additional evidence required and payment amounts and dates. Universal Credit information and applications are submitted online only at https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit.  Further information on all these services can also be found at /housing-and-benefits/
  • Council Tax - advice and guidance on moving in/out of area, discounts and exemptions and instalment plans, processing of payments. Please also see /council-tax/
  • Housing - receipt of evidence, general advice and guidance.  Housing applications are submitted online through the Homefinder website https://www.homefindersomerset.co.uk/
  • Waste and recycling -advice on collection days, guidance on what goes in each bin, missed collection reports, ordering of new/replacement bins
  • Streetscene - report litter, fly tipping, dead animals, discarded needles, dangerous dogs, dog fouling, stray dogs, graffiti
  • Community protection - report pest problems (rats, wasps, insects)
  • Horticulture - report damaged bins/fences/gates/hedges, shrubs/trees/hedge maintenance
  • Community Safety - recording of incidents

Debit card payments can be made at our all our offices.  Cash machines for payments by cash or card are available at Brympton Way, Petters House and Chard Community Office. Cheques cannot be taken in our Community Offices and will need to be sent directly to SSDC, Brympton Way, Yeovil, Somerset, BA20 2HT.

Crewkerne Office - Market Square, Crewkerne, TA18 7LN

Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 9am - 1pm & 1.30pm - 3.30pm.  Thursdays open 9am - 1pm 

Based alongside the Town Council and Crewkerne Local Information Centre

We have a public access computer where you can access the SSDC website and use our online services including applying for  housing benefit and council tax reduction as well as many other services.  You can also access the Homefinder website for Housing applications and bidding.


Ilminster Office - North Street, Ilminster, TA19 0DG

Open Monday, Tuesday & Thursdays 9.30am - 12 noon 

Based alongside the Town Council adjacent to the Market Square.  This office is not fully accessible due to the nature of the building.


Langport Office - Bow Street, Langport, TA10 9PR

Open Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 9am - 2pm

Based at the Langport Information Centre along with Tourist Information


Wincanton Office - Churchfield, Wincanton, BA9 9AG

Open Monday - Friday 9am - 1pm

Wincanton Police Station is also situated at Churchfield and offer a front desk enquiry service dealing with crime/accident reports, advice and guidance on Neighbourhood Policing matters


Yeovil Office, Petters House - Petters Way, Yeovil, BA20 1AS
