A Community Solution

Community Speed Watch (CSW) is a community road safety initiative which allows local residents to do something positive about excessive speeding in their neighbourhood.

Teams of police-trained volunteers monitor traffic passing through speed-limited areas, using radar or laser speed guns to identify those exceeding the limit.

Vehicles observed breaking the posted speed limit are reported to the police who will advise the driver by letter on the first and second occasions they are reported, that they need to driver more carefully in future, and by direct contact or other appropriate action on their or subsequent occasions.

CSW teams normally carry out 2 or more 1 hour roadside watches per week. Police regularly support CSW teams at the roadside.
