Consultations and Surveys

Your voice is important to us and will help shape the future of this district.

We regularly conduct consultations to get your views on key issues and run surveys to ensure your feedback is an important part of our decision-making process.

On this page you will find links to our current and future consultations and surveys.

  1. Council Tax Support scheme 2021/22

The Council is looking to implement a new Council Tax Support scheme within the Council’s area from 2021/22.  Council Tax Support is a means-tested discount to help people on low incomes pay their Council Tax. It is a local scheme run by South Somerset District Council that replaced Council Tax Benefit. No money is paid to the people who claim it as their award is used to reduce their Council Tax bill by the amount of support they are entitled to.

How does this consultation may affect me?

The Council Tax Support Scheme is funded through the Council Tax that residents of South Somerset pay. Therefore, it is important to get the views of all Council Tax payers regardless of whether you receive Council Tax Support or not.

The consultation will be from 24th September 2020 to 4th November 2020

Following the consultation, a report will be presented to the Council's Scrutiny Committee detailing the results of the consultation and proposals for the Council Tax Support scheme in 2021/22.

South Somerset District Council elected members will then make a final decision before 31st January 2021.

  2. Yeovil Refresh: Public Realm Design guide & Shopfront guide - CLOSED

The Public Realm Design guide is intended to provide a clear foundation for all future public realm schemes in Yeovil town centre. It will help create a guide for developers to follow when designing public areas. It will be adopted by the council as a Supplementary Planning Document which will add detail to the existing planning policies in the town centre.

A Shopfront guide provides guidance for the designs of new shopfronts as well as for alterations, replacement and restoration of existing shopfronts, both in historic and contemporary settings.

The guide aim to set out basic principles of good shopfront design and to help to create enjoyable and attractive shopping areas in Yeovil. The guide is part of the Public Realm Design Guide so will be a key part of the Supplementary Planning Document.

You can view the Public Realm Design guide (Part 1) here

  6. Public Space Protection Order proposals for Yeovil town centre - CLOSED

We are seeking your views on proposals to control the anti-social behaviour of street drinking of alcohol and also street begging.

In order to control the street drinking of alcohol and street begging, we would be looking to make two separate Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO). Each nuisance needs its own PSPO.

A PSPO can last no longer than three years but can be renewed if necessary. Failure to comply with the order can result in a fine or a fixed penalty notice.
