Introduction to Housing Options

What we do 

South Somerset District Council's Housing Options team is based at the Housing Advice Centre in Yeovil. We provide a service that includes the following: 

  • Preventing Homelessness
  • Accessing of Temporary Accommodation (if the client eligible and it is required)
  • Help in accessing accommodation in the private sector
  • Registering and maintaining Homefinder Somerset Applications 

We DO NOT provide assistance with the following but are happy to signpost to the correct organisation, agency or SSDC department: 

  • Housing Benefit Applications
  • Council Tax Reduction Applications
  • Advice concerning the condition of a property
  • Benefits administered by the Department for Work and Pensions e.g. JSA
  • Emergency benefits or benefit advances
  • Tax Credits and Child Benefit
  • Food Parcels
  • Cash Loans
  • Buying furniture for a property
  • A public access phone
  • Pay your rent at an SSDC office

We're based at the Housing Advice Centre at Petters House in Yeovil.
