South Somerset District Council will become part of the new Somerset Council from the 1st April 2023 whose planning service will be one of the largest in the UK, dealing with in excess of 10,000 applications per year including significant infrastructure schemes, regeneration, garden towns, some 10,700 listed buildings and 160 conservation areas as well as a National Park, 5 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and numerous environmental designations including the internationally significant Somerset Levels landscape. 

This is a rare opportunity for two new enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our busy Development Management Case Team. 

The role is focussed on the efficient processing of a variety of application types, pre-application enquiries and appeals requiring excellent organisational skills and a high standard of customer service. 

A key responsibility of the role is liaising with applicants and agents, colleagues, councillors, members of the public, consultees and other stakeholders, also negotiating and drafting comprehensive reports therefore excellent communication skills are essential. You will also be required to present applications at Area Committees as necessary. 

Whilst a planning related degree is desirable, previous experience of working within a Development Management or similar environment and having responsibility for a varied caseload is essential as is being a team player, having attention to detail, a good working knowledge of planning policies and processes and the ability to deal with conflicting deadlines and priorities.
