We have an exciting opportunity for a Chard Heritage Action Zone Project Manager to join us. Apply now and become a valued member of the Regeneration team, helping South Somerset to be a place where businesses flourish, communities are safe, vibrant and healthy and residents enjoy good housing and cultural, leisure and sporting activities.

Fixed term for 3 years

The High Streets Heritage Action Zones Programme (HSHAZ) is a nationwide initiative designed to secure lasting improvements to our historic high streets for the communities who use them. It is funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and run by Historic England. This £2m Programme has as its goal making the high street a more attractive, engaging and vibrant place for people to live, work and spend time. The HSHAZ Programme will do this through three complementary strands: (a) undertaking physical improvement works to town centre buildings and within the public realm; (b) facilitating cultural activities and events celebrating the history of the high street and its importance to local communities over the generations and, crucially, (c) giving local communities a key role in deciding what works they want to see happening on their high street and what sort of place they want it to be.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Regeneration Team at South Somerset District Council as our Chard High Street Heritage Action Zone Project Manager.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and managing the successful delivery of the Chard HSHAZ over the four year delivery period, taking a lead role in coordinating and delivering various projects within it, in partnership with other stakeholders, organisations, property owners and businesses, to support a longer-term legacy. The project will need to be delivered in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract/funding agreement between Historic England and South Somerset Council.

Please contact Rebecca McElliott, Specialist – Property & Development Project Manager on 01935 462173 should you wish to discuss the role in more detail.
