What we’re looking for…

Someone with a passion for working in the countryside and conservation sector to deliver a high standard of conservation management and site maintenance, at this popular local nature reserve on the edge of Chard.   You will need strong practical skills and self-motivation as you will be a lone working officer, but will have the support of a dedicated and enthusiastic team of volunteers. Surrounded by woodland edge, reed beds and floristically diverse meadows, you will lead the team of volunteers in the management of these varied habitats. You will have responsibility for the weekly inspections of the dam infrastructure, water levels and water quality, liaising with the Countryside Manager, Inspecting Engineer and Environment Agency. You will develop additional opportunities for visitors and the local communities to become involved at the nature reserve, including public events. You will implement wildlife monitoring schemes to ensure appropriate management of the site and it’s protected species and you will work alongside the wider countryside team to manage and protect all of South Somerset’s countryside sites.
