We have an exciting opportunity for a Gardener to join us. Apply now and become a valued member of the Environmental services team, helping South Somerset to be a place where businesses flourish, communities are safe, vibrant and healthy and residents enjoy good housing and cultural, leisure and sporting activities.

Location: Based from our depot in Yeovil with travel throughout South Somerset

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a person to join our team as a Gardener within our experienced and professional Gardening team. If you love working outdoors and are willing to learn, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

The role provides grounds maintenance across the South Somerset district at many well-known open spaces and lots of areas that you wouldn’t think about. This includes council and publicly owned land, properties and contracts as determined by the service.

The hours of work vary throughout the year. From April to the end of October, we work 7.30 am until 4.00 pm (on Fridays we start the weekend early at 3.00 pm) and from November to the end of March, we work from 8.00 am to 3.30 pm. We go out in all weathers.

We need our gardeners to be reliable, take pride in their work and be committed to working in a team to deliver high-quality work for the people of South Somerset. You must understand the need for exceptional customer satisfaction, be willing to undertake training when required and work according to Health & Safety regulations.

A full and clean driving licence is essential, and the ability to use a ride on machinery and a wide range of hand tools following the manufacturer’s recommendations.

A qualification in Horticulture or knowledge and experience of grounds maintenance works would be an advantage but isn’t essential, as we can provide any training and development needed.

Please contact Quentin Coleman, Team Leader Horticulture, on 07968616096 should you wish to discuss the role in more detail.

In the application please give details of any conflict of interest that could impact either the recruitment process or your employment with south Somerset.

We promote and value diversity in the workplace and welcome diverse applicants. We are committed to applying our equal opportunities policy at all stages of recruitment and selection. Shortlisting, interviewing and selection will always be carried out without regard to disability, sex or sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital or civil partnership status, colour, race, nationality, ethnic or national origins, religion or belief, age, or pregnancy or maternity.

We treat personal data collected during the recruitment process in accordance with our data protection policy/policy on processing special category personal data and criminal records. Information about how your data is used and the basis for processing your data is provided in our privacy notice.
