South Somerset is one of the largest and most fascinating District local authorities in the country. The area has a thriving, diverse economy and is home to world leading, high tech aerospace, engineering and manufacturing businesses. A strong agricultural sector drives world renowned food and drink production and tourism. The quality of life in our villages and towns is unrivalled attracting many to visit, settle and develop their careers and businesses here.
The Council has undergone a significant transformation over the last 2 years, which has changed our approach throughout the organisation, including ways of working, how we deliver services to our communities and our structure. But most importantly we are passionate about doing everything we can to protect front line services and deliver for our communities. With innovative strategies, we are striving to make South Somerset an even better place to live, work and invest. Following the COVID-19 pandemic we are keen to recover well, but we aren’t trying to go back to where we were – we want to push forward to new and better ways of delivering for our communities.
Now we are recruiting for a Lead Specialist - Communities. This role is responsible for delivering the key outcomes of our Council Plan that relate to wellbeing and sustainable communities. Our approach is to working as a team (in fact you will be part of many teams!) to deliver what’s needed. There will be some services you are responsible for, but this will change, as will your work plan, to reflect the changing needs of our communities. The successful applicant will lead on areas such as Housing needs, Benefits, Health & Wellbeing and our Careline service. But don’t think that’s just it – you will be involved in many projects, programmes and teams, delivering leisure priorities, social mobility challenges, and finding innovative and creative ways to support our Communities. The post holder will require extensive leadership experience, as we are looking for someone who can effect real change and improvements, taking our colleagues along with you as you deliver for our communities.
We are One Team – Ambitious for South Somerset. To be successful in these roles you will need to be collaborative and share our ambition for doing our best for the council and the communities of South Somerset.
In return we offer a progressive place to work with flexibility, extensive benefits and a local government pension scheme, oh and one of the best places to live in the country! Come and be part of an ambitious and progressive organisation, and help us make our ambitions a reality.
