Local writer set for feature film screening at Westlands Entertainment Venue

A local writer is set to see his story at Westlands Entertainment Venue as part of the nationwide launch.

Ross Owen Williams, from Crewkerne, wrote Winter Ridge; his first feature film release. Originally the film was set in North East America but, realising the cinematic potential of South West England, he rewrote the script and set the story in the UK.

Winter Ridge tells the story of a Police Detective investigating a series of suspicious deaths whilst his wife is in a coma, only to discover the nature of the crimes are far closer to him than he imagined.

The film brings star power in the form of Hannah Waddingham (Game of Thrones, Les Misérables), Alan Ford (Snatch, Lock Stock..), Olwen Catherine Kelly and up-and-coming star Matt Hookings.

The feature film screens on Friday 7 September at 6.30pm at South Somerset District Council's Westlands Entertainment Venue in Yeovil. Tickets for the screening can be purchased on the Westlands website by clicking here.

Ross Owen Williams said, "It's incredible to see Winter Ridge come to life on the big screen. I can still remember years ago having nothing more than an idea, a keyboard and a blank page, and here we are now - it's both humbling and exciting. I hope as many people as possible from Somerset will turn out to support the film at the Westlands screening."

Winter Ridge was overseen by award-winning director Dom Lenoir and producers Matt Hookings of Camelot Films, Nancy Bressolles of Nice One Film (Rise of the Krays) and Chris Hardman of chris.hardman Pictures who has worked on films such as Avatar, Wonder Woman and Jurassic World 2 as a Visual Effects Lead.

Adam Burgan, Arts & Entertainment Manager at South Somerset District Council said, "We are excited and very proud to be screening Winter Ridge at Westlands. The film has its roots placed in Somerset and we are sure audiences will enjoy the film even more seeing the story set and filmed in the South West. Ross is a very talented artist and it is a fantastic achievement to have a feature film made. We are looking forward to seeing the film and hope that it will become a huge success".

Councillor Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Culture at South Somerset District Council said, "Arts in South Somerset and across the whole of Somerset is going from strength-to-strength and it's wonderful to see a local writer involved in such a big movie here in the South West."
