A digital boost for the Edgar Hall

Members of South Somerset District Council's Area North Committee approved a grant on Wednesday 23 November of £3,280 to Somerton Town Council towards an upgrade of equipment at the Edgar Hall.

The grant will help with the costs of new wireless projector equipment in the main hall and in a meeting room and a digital information screen for the entrance lobby, to show the events and meetings that are happening.

Edgar Hall is a town council owned facility with five meeting spaces for between 6 and 500 people. The facility is used by community groups on a regular and occasional basis, with private individuals hiring rooms for celebration parties.

The installation of a new projector system and internal signage will help to further improve functionality and desirability of the facility which has already seen growth in lettings over the last year and has a further increase forecast for this year.

Terry Philpott, Clerk for Somerton Town Council said "The Town Council and management at Edgar Hall are delighted to have been awarded such a generous grant which, along with a matching contribution from our own funds, this will enable us to upgrade the facilities with improved digital equipment benefiting the users of the hall. We anticipate further increased bookings and receipts."

Speaking about the benefits of the grant, Councillor Stephen Page, local District Councillor said, "The Edgar Hall is used by community groups on a regular basis and by installing new digital screens, it will enable those groups to display information in a more professional and user-friendly way. The installation of the wireless projector equipment gives us a unique selling point and will hopefully entice other groups to use the facilities."

Councillor Clare Aparicio Paul, Chair of South Somerset District Council Area North Committee said "The Area North Committee Members voted unanimously to support this grant to Somerton Town Council, helping this valued community asset to become more digitally friendly. We now look forward to seeing the benefits the digital equipment brings to the hall."
