South Somerset District Council seeks your views on new Street Trading proposals

South Somerset District Council (SSDC) is looking for views on how we manage Street Trading across the district.

For the past 12 weeks, a group of members have been working on changes to the Council's current Street Trading Policy and SSDC are now seeking comments from residents and businesses in the district.

There are certain elements of the Street Trading Policy which are legally set by the government and we can't change those, but there are some things we can do locally to ensure that well managed Street Trading continues to play an important role in a thriving South Somerset economy.

Councillor Martin Wale who is chairing the group of members reviewing the policy said, "We really hope that as many existing traders and businesses as well as Town and Parish Councils take the opportunity to get involved in this consultation exercise. We have looked at new legislation and what our neighbouring authorities are doing in preparing the draft new policy but it's always important to hear directly from our residents."

The consultation documents can be found on the Council's website at www.southsomerset.gov.uk/consultation or you can contact our Licensing Services Manager, Nigel Marston by telephone on 01935 462150 or by email at nigel.marston@southsomerset.gov.uk for more information.

The consultation period will run from Monday 5 December 2016 until Friday 3 February 2017.
