Street Cleaner coming to Yeovil town this Christmas day

Spare a thought this Christmas morning for the street cleaner that will be litter picking, emptying bins and helping to keep Yeovil's town centre clean and tidy after the seasonal festivities the night before.

Whilst most residents are busy unwrapping their presents from Santa, a member of staff from South Somerset District Council's Streetscene Services will be out making sure Middle Street in Yeovil town centre is kept spotlessly clean.

Councillor Jo Roundell Greene, Deputy Leader of South Somerset District Council and Portfolio Holder for Environment & Economic Development said, "Our staff work tremendously hard all year and Christmas is just another working day for some of them.

"We have a member of staff on call for any kind of emergency, or to respond to the collection of stray dogs, broken glass or discarded needles.

"We are dedicated to keeping the district clean and tidy. I would like to say a personal thank you to all those who work throughout the year to make South Somerset a clean and pleasant place to live, visit and work."

On Christmas Eve, when you are doing that last bit of shopping or if you are partying late into the night, spare a thought for the street cleaner who will be working on Christmas Day and make sure you put your rubbish in the bins provided. A crew of street cleaners will also be working on New Year's Day cleaning up after party-goers.
