Exciting Acute Day Surgery Unit application approved by Area South Committee

A planning application from Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation to build a new specialist Acute Day Surgery Unit has been recently approved by South Somerset District Council's Area South Committee.

The application was unanimously approved by Area South Committee Members who agreed that the facility was much-needed for Yeovil and the wider community.

The day surgery unit will be built on the former visitor's car park which had become vacant since the construction and opening of the multi-storey car park elsewhere on the estate. It will be a three storey building, consisting of a reception and waiting area, multiple day surgery rooms and also have staff facilities.

Speaking about the approval of the application, Councillor Peter Gubbins, Chairman of Area South Committee said, "With an aging population, it's important that we have the facilities in place that are near to where people need them. The old day surgery was located in the main hospital site, but an independent day surgery building allows for a more dedicated service to those in need. Councillors felt that this exciting application was well over-due and we look forward to the local community benefitting from the service".

The application was discussed at Area South Committee on Wednesday 5 July.

The details of the approved planning application, the approval decision notice and a letter to the agent in regards to the use of suitable fire retardant cladding on the building can be found online at /planningdetails/?id=1701997FUL.
