Discovering rural England at its best couldn't be easier thanks to South Somerset District Council's free visitors guide, Discover South Somerset.

Discover is a comprehensive guide to the destination of South Somerset, an annual publication that aims to encourage more visitors to this fabulous area, give residents ideas for trips and days out and to help raise the profile of our South Somerset businesses and attractions.

The free 44 paged A5 guide is full of places to visit, many free, from local countryside sites to attractions and includes some of the great range of food and drink companies in the area. There is also a handy map, calendar of local events and list of produce markets.

This year, South Somerset has been divided into three areas, Hamstone Country, the Blackmore Vale and Camelot Country and the Levels and Moors, with each section highlighting the features that make it unique.

Discover South Somerset 2018 will be launched at the Literature Exchange at Westlands Entertainment Venue on Tuesday 20th March - just one of the national events being held in English Tourism week this year. If you are a local tourism business and would like to attend to collect literature for the coming year then please contact tourism@southsomerset.gov.uk.

Derek Yeomans, Portfolio Holder for Tourism at South Somerset District Council said, "Our free Discover South Somerset guide has such a wide range of activities for you to explore and enjoy. The mix of attractions, events, accommodation and uniquely Somerset crafts makes for a superb guide that you will refer to again and again throughout the year.  We think it really sells what's on offer within South Somerset to our visitors, so they can also appreciate what a beautiful place we all live in".

"For those that already live in South Somerset, the guide will have you wanting to visit places on your doorstep and invest your time in, exploring, discovering, relaxing and sampling the fine food and drink that South Somerset produces".

The Discover guide is particularly targeted at visitors to South Somerset and copies are being distributed nationally via the Tourist Information Centre network. The guide is also very useful if you have friends and families visiting and you can pick up a copy from the Yeovil and Cartgate Tourist Information Centres, who can also offer advice about local things to do and sell discounted tickets to events and attractions. A downloadable version is available at www.DiscoverSouthSomerset.com, where you can also see a comprehensive list of local events and more details about South Somerset.
