Cartgate Tourist Information Centre sees fantastic advertising opportunities installed

Cartgate Tourist Information Centre (TIC) has recently installed two 49" HDTV screens providing a fantastic opportunity to promote South Somerset and the neighbouring districts as a tourism destination.

Sited along the busy A303 with nearly 70,000 visitors a year, South Somerset District Council's TIC is the perfect location to advertise your attraction or business, encouraging visitors to stop and stay in the diverse County of Somerset.

Cartgate Picnic Site (where the TIC is located) also provides visitors with a café, toilet facilities, picnic area and large car park. It is an extremely popular location used by many tourists, business people, coach parties, lorry drivers and local visitors. The centre is open all year; seven days a week in the summer months.

The project has been funded by Somerset County Council as part of the specific tourism funding allocation given to maximise the opportunities and mitigate potential impacts on the tourism industry following the development and building of Hinkley Point C nuclear power station by EDF Energy, next to the existing power station.

Hinkley Point C will take an estimated 10 years to build at a cost of £19.6 billion, providing 25,000 employment opportunities and powering an estimated five million homes.

Councillor Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Tourism at South Somerset District Council said, "We all know that South Somerset is the most fantastic location to explore with superb gardens, heritage, countryside and diverse attractions to visit. These screens give local businesses that extra platform to encourage visits from a wide range of people. Some visitors do just still use Cartgate as a stopping off point on their way further south west, our aim is to encourage them to stop for longer, or to pay us a return visit. Film is a fantastic way to showcase all that is special about South Somerset and the footage already on show is going down well with our visitors."

Staff at Cartgate TIC staff can provide help on places to visit and stay and can also assist with specific enquiries about dog friendly locations, accessibility and unique experiences in South Somerset. It's not only visitors to the area who use the facilities, but many local residents looking to further explore the area and take advantage of the many discounted ticket prices for key events like the Yeovil Show. The TIC also carries a range of local products and gifts for visitors to purchase.

Dr Julie Wooler, Economic Development & Strategic Tourism Officer at Somerset County Council, said: "Somerset County Council are delighted to support the installation of the new screens and iPad at Cartgate Tourist Information Services on the A303.  These new facilities, coupled with the on-site expertise of Centre staff provide an excellent way to showcase what South Somerset and the wider region has to offer. We know that the use of fantastic visual imagery plays an important role in inspiring visitors to explore an area for the first time, and hopefully return to discover more.  All in all, this new service will ensure a positive experience for visitors to Somerset whether they come from near, or far, as well as providing a platform for businesses to promote to a wider audience".

Cartgate TIC is now offering new advertising packages in the form of media screen advertising (on indoor and outdoor facing screens) and priority leaflet display space.

A public iPad has also been provided next to the indoor screen to enable visitors to research further information about attractions or businesses. In addition, any advertised destinations will be promoted further by the Tourist Information Centre's experienced and knowledgeable staff.
