Yeovil's Super Saturday

Saturday 23 September is Super Saturday in Yeovil, with a dinosaur theme to welcome families to the town centre

Super Saturday

Look out for an animatronic T-Rex wandering around St John's Church green

8 feet high by 17 feet long, it should be easy to spot!  Children will be able to craft their very own colourful dino-friend in the children's activity area and take part in a circus skills workshop, Punch and Judy shows, face-painting and dinosaur crafts.  There will also be community stalls, an independent market and a craft market.

Town centre shops are taking the dinosaur theme to their hearts with themed windows, a treasure hunt and a prize draw.  Enjoy looking in town cafes for dino-decorated goodies and themed menus.  More details on the Love Yeovil facebook page.

Paul Stickland, author of "Dinosaur Roar!" has been visiting local schools in the lead up to the event, to craft dinosaurs and these will be on display in a shop in the Quedam Shopping Centre.

Buskfest is bringing music to the streets, as buskers travel from as far as Tokyo to play for charity.  This year's charity is locally-based School in a Bag helping poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster affected children throughout the world.  Bugfest will entertain with crawly and slithery creatures at the bandstand area and the Quedam will be the place to go for Dance Fest with demonstrations by clubs and dance schools and a ''relax kids" mindfulness area.

Super Saturday is organised through a partnership between Yeovil Town Council, South Somerset District Council (SSDC),Love YeovilMarketing Group, the Quedam Shopping Centre and many commercial and voluntary organisations.  The aims of the event are to give something back to the people of Yeovil and to generate footfall for the retail economy of the town.

District Councillor Peter Gubbins, Chairman of SSDC's Area South Committee, says: "We're looking forward to a lively day in Yeovil with everyone joining in with the street entertainment and a buzz in the shops and caf├ęs.  There will be something for everyone and many of the activities will be free, so come along and enjoy the atmosphere and fun."
