You may apply to register your interest in a premises if you have a legal interest or are the legal mortgagee or are in occupation of the premises.

Licence summary

If you have a legal interest or are the legal mortgagee or are in occupation of the premises, but are not the premise licence holder you may apply to the local Licensing Authority to register your interest in the premises.

Eligibility criteria

  • Have a legal interest in the premises as freeholder or leaseholder
  • Are the legal mortgagee in respect of the premises (within the meaning of the Law of Property Act 1925)
  • Are in occupation of the premises

Application evaluation process

Applications must be sent to the licensing authority for the area where the premises are located.

Applications must be made on the appropriate prescribed form and be accompanied by a fee of £21.00.

Will tacit consent apply?

Yes. This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from the local authority by the end of the target completion period, which is subject to the submission of all information required. The timescale is 10 days after receipt of a valid application.

If you are submitting this application by post tacit consent will only apply when the business can show proof of delivery from the Post Office or recognised courier.

Timescales for processing an application do not start until all the necessary information has been received in full.
