Click into Activity Project success in South Somerset

| Your Area North
The Click into Activity Project continues to be a success in South Somerset with more than 500 residents going through the programme in the last two and a half years.

Click into Activity allows inactive patients from Broadway, Chard, Crewkerne, Ilminster and Langport doctors surgeries, who have had either Diabetes, Pre-diabetes, High Blood Pressure, or are Overweight/Obese, to access 12 weeks of free activity sessions with an exercise specialist, following an initial 1-to-1 appointment at their GP surgery.

The 3-year project benefitted from £194,480 of Sport England's Get Healthy Get Active funding and is also funded by the Somerset Health and Wellbeing Board. Now in its final year, South Somerset District Council (SSDC) is urging residents who could benefit from Click activities to contact their local GP.

Sam Wenden-de-Lira, Click into Activity Project Lead at South Somerset District Council said, "If you are a patient at one of the surgeries in Broadway, Chard, Crewkerne, Ilminster or Langport and have being diagnosed with one of the aforementioned conditions, please speak to your GP about the Click into Activity Project.

"There are many benefits of taking part, which include helping to reduce and in some cases cure the medical condition that has previously been diagnosed".

Councillor Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Culture added, "People are referred to the sessions by their GP, and the free sessions help otherwise inactive people exercise and promote a healthier way of living".

One resident who has taken part said they quickly noticed the benefits of the Click into Activity programme. They wrote in and said: "Following my annual review for high blood pressure at my GP Surgery, I was given details of the 'Click' programme and after an appointment with Della I joined up.

"The programme was not only very effective but extremely enjoyable, and I very quickly noticed the benefits including the 'surprise bonus' of helping with my advanced C.O.P.D.

"I had not done any exercise for over 20 years and was a very heavy smoker. Since 'Click', I have stopped smoking, and feel great. I have overhauled my bicycle and will be starting to use it again.

"This programme is the best thing I have done and is certainly getting me back into activity. Well done to all and especially Della".

If you think you meet the criteria, you can arrange an appointment with one of SSDC's Exercise Specialists at the participating surgeries or mention Click into Activity when visiting your GP.
