Tennis Club gets much needed grant for court resurfacing
A grant from South Somerset District Council has helped Chard Tennis Club serve aces once again after the courts have been resurfaced.
Chard Tennis Club received a grant of £8,000 from South Somerset District Council towards the costs of resurfacing two of the three courts at their site at Denning's Sports Field.
The new carpet surface means that the club can extend its playing season all year as the courts will not become slippery after rain or frost.
Councillor Val Keitch, Chair of South Somerset District Council's Area West Committee said, "We are delighted to be supporting Chard Tennis Club in developing their facilities within the town. It is recognition of the service that they provide for both adults and juniors alike".
Chard Tennis Club was founded in the 1920's and currently has a membership of around 158.
The Club has active adult and junior sections and recently sent two representatives to the Senior World Championships in Florida with one club member winning the world title in the 70+ category for the 5th year running.
