Licensing services help tourism and leisure industries within South Somerset

| District
The third National Licensing Week is taking place this week and day two aims to give information about how licensing helps the tourism and leisure industry to thrive in South Somerset.

South Somerset is a wonderful place to live, visit and do business but imagine not being able to visit a country pub because it had no alcohol licence. Or imagine not being able to go to The Octagon Theatre, Westlands Entertainment Venue or even the local cinema.

The fact is, licensing is all around you on a day to day basis and you might not notice it. Without the Licensing department being there to issue the correct licenses, the leisure and tourism industries in South Somerset and the rest of the country would be pretty much non-existent.

Councillor Angie Singleton, Portfolio Holder for Licensing at South Somerset District Council said, "It's astounding to think how many different places you visit on a weekly basis have had visits from the Licensing Team and require licences to operate. South Somerset is a beautiful place and is full of plenty of things to do, but it all wouldn't be able to function without the right licence and the hard work of the Licensing Officers".

South Somerset District Council's licensing team has a very helpful section on the SSDC website at www.southsomerset.gov.uk/licensing that gives details of the different licences, permits, registrations and notifications needed for tourism and leisure businesses.

You can also find a very useful Business Link online tool which will enable you to find out which licences are relevant to your business and also a full list of current fees for different licences.

Thank you. You response is appreciated.
