Yeovil Innovation Centre tenant shortlisted for top technology award

A Virtual Reality (VR) software product developed by a Yeovil Innovation Centre tenant has been shortlisted at the Computer Technology Leaders Awards 2018.

Invirt Reality, a software technology SME, specialising in interactive VR training systems, has been based at the Innovation centre for a number of years. The company were tasked by their client MTR Crossrail (who run London's Elizabeth Line franchise), to develop a fully immersive VR platform staff training system and it is this project that has been recognised for this prestigious award.

The winners will be announced on Wednesday 4th July at The May Fair Hotel in London.

Chris Jones, Managing Director for Invirt Reality said, "We are really thrilled to be shortlisted for this award and hope it shows the hard work and dedication that we have put in to our work. We are thankful to the team at the Innovation Centre for looking after us for a number of years and hope we bring the award back to South Somerset."

Councillor Jo Roundell Greene, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development added, "It's fantastic news that Invirt Reality have been shortlisted for this prestigious technology award. It really shows the top class businesses that we have nurtured and established in South Somerset."

Since 2012, the business have concentrated on developing VR solutions for training in highly regulated sectors including aerospace, rail and nuclear.

South Somerset District Council's Yeovil Innovation Centre boast over 30 business tenants that call the centre home. The Innovation Centre is an evolving business community aimed at ambitious organisations and entrepreneurs that are looking for a flexible, prestigious, low-cost solution with space for growth.

Tenants enjoy prestigious office accommodation, super-fast broadband and stunning hospitality and meeting areas, without the commitment of a long lease.

Yeovil Innovation Centre is growing, with Phase 2 development works set to be completed in early autumn 2018. An additional 9,500sq foot of flexible office accommodation will be added to enable more start up and small businesses in the high-tech and innovation fields to establish, expand and benefit from working with similar businesses at the existing Yeovil Innovation Centre.
