New Area West chairman for South Somerset District Council announced following former chairs appointment to Leader
Councillor Baker is the Liberal Democrat councillor for Holyrood in Chard and was appointed to the role as Chairman of Area West Committee at a recent meeting held on Wednesday 15 August. He commenced the role on 1st September 2018.
Speaking after being elected as Chairman of the Area West Committee, Councillor Baker said: "I am looking forward to working with all of the councillors and residents of Area West in Chard, Ilminster, Crewkerne and the surrounding villages."
Jason is totally committed to the Chard Regeneration Scheme, which is one of the District Councils priorities projects. The consultation on the proposals for the regeneration of Chard town centre well under way. Similar projects are also taking place in Yeovil with Wincanton set to see a town centre action plan implemented later this year.
The Chard Regeneration Scheme focuses on regenerating the Boden Mill and ACI site in the centre of the town. The proposals include a new leisure centre and swimming pool, alongside a blend of housing and commercial developments. In addition to this, the scheme proposes a number of other measures to boost business in the town, support events and revitalise the market.
Councillor Baker added: "Chard Regeneration is one of the biggest priorities for the Council, there will be a new swimming pool and leisure centre and we will be bringing the library and museum into the heart of the community. I have been on the Chard Regeneration Board and have been supporting the project for many years."
