Missed waste collections due to severe weather

| District

Collections

If a collection is missed in severe weather, crews will make a return pick-up as soon as possible.  Put out missed containers by 7am for up to four working days for recycling, and up to seven calendar days for rubbish/garden waste. If still no collection, take containers back in and put them out by 7am on the next usual collection day.

Unfortunately the extent of disruption across the County (with no collections taking place in the majority of the collection zones on Friday approx. 38,000 properties) this will take some time to resolve and catch up could potentially take the rest of the week to recover.

Garden waste services will continue to be suspended to allow these resources to continue to assist in the catch up phase but this will be kept under review and as soon as issues allow this will be reinstated. More information, including the Terms and Conditions of the services, can be found on the Somerset Waste Partnership website.

Recycling Centres

All sites now fully operational and no issues identified at this time.

Key messages

  • Recycling sites are an option for those with excess waste or who are keen to clear materials, if they have time and transport.
  • To avoid litter from waste containers, recycling boxes should be stacked with the heavier items on top.
