Ham Hill hosts summer pop-up museum and activity centre

| Your Area North

Experience a mini museum this summer at Ham Hill Country Park, enjoy free activities and discover more about the history and wildlife of the site.

From Saturday 20 July until Friday 30 August, the education centre at Ham Hill Country Park will be transformed into a mini museum and activity centre with free drop in activities every day for everyone to enjoy.

The doors to the pop-up museum will be open between 10am and 4pm, welcoming you to participate in the events that will take place at various times throughout the day.

Experience life as a Roman by trying out our dress up, minting a Roman coin and following the Friends of Ham Hill Country Park’s brand new ‘Roman Treasure Trail’. You can complete the trail by picking up a leaflet that was funded by PRIME and written in conjunction with the ranger team. Follow the trail to answer questions and ‘win’ Roman coins. You could even try your hand at stone carving, creating your very own Iron Age jewellery, and bug hunting.

The pop up museum and activity centre is being run as a trial to support a bid to the National Lottery’s Heritage Fund for Ham Hill. If successful, the proposed project will make significant improvements at Ham Hill for its visitors and its wildlife.

To find out more about the project proposals, drop in to the pop-up museum where you will also be given the chance to have your say on Ham Hill by completing a visitor survey. Alternatively, follow this link to complete the survey

Councillor Sarah Dyke, portfolio holder for Environment at South Somerset District Council, said: “The pop-up museum is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the history of the site and enjoy many different activities related to its history.

“The event has been made possible thanks to many generous sponsors, who we must thank. We want to improve the visitor experience at Ham Hill Country Park and events such as this will help us to do that.”

The summer event is being supported by the Friends of Ham Hill Country Park. We’d also like to thank all of our generous sponsors: the Fine Foundation, Stoke-sub-Hamdon Sports and Recreation Trust, Norton Parish Council, Montacute Carnival, Somerset Skills and Learning, and Waitrose’s Community Matters fund.
