South Somerset District Council supports Forest School. Get in touch to get your school involved.

Forest School Day is an annual event held on the 9th of October, but SSDC promotes Forest School learning all year round, helping school children to celebrate, connect, share and celebrate everything great and wonderful about Forest School. Our qualified Countryside team has been delivering Forest School sessions to local schools for over five years.

SSDC Community Heritage officer Becky Russell said “It’s great to get children out in the fresh air, it improves their physical and mental wellbeing and they have a great time. A child told me only last week ‘forest school is like playtime all morning’, but in that time, the children and teachers learned to identify trees by their leaves, nuts, and berries, and make their own paint from berries they’d gathered, followed by creating some lovely pictures with their berry paint, learning through play.”

If your school would like Forest School sessions delivered either on school grounds or one of our countryside sites, please get in touch, we’d be happy to help more children enjoy and learn in nature. Email us at
